Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant on the Jubilee ticket Suleiman Shahbal has outlined his plan to fight drug addiction in the county.

During the launch of his manifesto on Friday, Shahbal proposes that there will a capital punishment for those found guilty of trafficking drugs.

Currently, there are 96,752 drug addicts in Mombasa, he says, and 6,725 have died of overdose since 2010.

According to Shahbal, the current regime has not done much to wipe out or curtail supply, despite building a rehab centre at the Coast General Hospital.

“Each of us has lost a brother, a sister or a friend to drugs. We must fight back. Enough is enough. Our lawyers will ensure they are convicted,” he states in his manifesto.
