According to Joho, Awiti who is using the Vibrant Democratic Party (VDP) to unseat him, mounted a billboard in Mombasa, without approval of the county government authorities.
Mombasa City Court Principal Magistrate CN Ndegwa gave summons, directing Awiti to appear before the court, Friday morning, June 30, to answer to the charges.
This even as Joho is accused of blocking his rivals, Awiti and Jubilee Party's Suleiman Shahbal, from mounting campaign billboards in the Coastal town.
They want Joho investigated on claims that he is bribing billboard companies to reject their tenders to mount billboards to advertise their candidature against Joho, an ODM (Nasa) governor.
The county government has however dismissed the accusations.
