Throughout 2017 campaigns, Joho was one of opposition leaders who openly attacked Uhuru whenever he showed up in campaigns.

At Mombasa on Thursday, Joho welcomed Uhuru's invitation to work together for the betterment of the nation.

"The governor now fully supports the president's agenda and this is the way to go. Politics is over just as the president said and it is time to work for people," said Joho's ally, Felix Mariera, who works at the county government.

He said: "There comes a time when people bury their differences and so it happened today. The governor is happy and willing to work closely with the government."

During 2017 campaigns, Joho lost his security details twice and had the government barring him from attending national functions at the coast hosted by the president.

And his latest decision to work with the government could be a blow to a section of coastal politicians among them former senator Hassan Omar, who often attacked Joho's ability to lead.

Following a series of onslaught allegedly instigated by the president, Joho reduced his persistent attacks on Jubilee administration and has rarely criticised the government lately.
