Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has told off President Uhuru Kenyatta over disbursement of funds to the county government.
In a statement addressed to Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich on Tuesday, Joho dismissed Uhuru's remarks that the county has been allocated Sh40 billion since its inception.
“It has come to my attention, as is widely reported in media outlets, statements attributed to H.E The President of Kenya, to the effect that Mombasa County Government is the beneficiary of a collective Sh40 billion in National disbursements since the onset of devolution,” read the statement in part.
The outspoken governor clarified that his county government has only received Sh17 billion, and demanded the Sh23 billion balance from the National Treasury.
“Contrary to what was reported this is to confirm that the County Government of Mombasa received a total equitable share of Sh16,396,501,522. I would like to humbly request verification and clarification of the above amounts. I further request for the immediate disbursement of the balance of the said Sh40 billion which is Sh23,603,498,478,” he added.
This comes after Uhuru on Sunday said Joho's government had received Sh40 billion from the National Treasury and challenged him to account for the funds.
