Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has said residents and businesses in the county will be affected if the government develops a dry port in Naivasha.Joho said moving the port services from Mombasa to Naivasha will cause massive job losses for residents in the county. The Governor said youth in the region are already suffering due to lack of jobs, adding that transferring port services to another county will make the situation worse.Speaking during the launch of a maternity wing at Tudor Sub-County Hospital in Mombasa on Thursday, Joho further said that transferring the port services to Naivasha would cripple the tourism hub.The Governor threatened to go to court to sue the government if it transfers the port services.“When I told you that the port services were being shifted, you made a mockery out of it and you laughed at me. But you are now implementing it. I am even contemplating going to court,” he said. The county boss last year took issue with the debate on privatisation of the Mombasa Port, saying it does not make economic sense to create a dry port in Naivasha when there is a seaport in Mombasa.
