Joho said his government will sue KPA, saying the port generates an annual revenue of Sh35.6 billion but the county government only receives a small share.

Speaking during the launch of MV Mombasa 001, a deep sea fishing vessel, the governor said the region's economy has been sabotaged and the people of Mombasa deprived of what rightfully belongs to them.

“It is time to go to court over the revenue share with the port. Let them (KPA) prepare for a battle,” said Joho, as quoted by The Star.

The outspoken governor said other countries have been reaping big from their ports because they involve the local government.

“Rotterdam city owns 70 per cent of Rotterdam Port, Shanghai Port is fully owned by the Shanghai municipality, Durban by Durban city, Long Beach (California) Port is 100 per cent owned by Long Beach city and Antwerp is fully owned by the Antwerp city. Why is Mombasa County the exception?” asked Joho.
