Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho on Saturday threw a massive surprise birthday party for his party leader and Cord co-principal, Raila Odinga.

Odinga, who turned 72 on Saturday, was in Ghana for the inauguration of Ghana's president Nana Akufo-Addo. He was accompanied by Joho, his daughter and other high ranking ODM officials.

The party was celebrated at the posh Tang Palace hotel in the country's capital Accra.

Kenyans had earlier taken to social media to wish the opposition leader a happy birthday.

Joho, on his Facebook page posted: "After observing the peaceful handover of power at the Black Star Square between the outgoing administration of Former President John Mahama and incoming President Nana Kuffor Addo, we treated the Rt Hon Raila Odinga to a 72nd birthday surprise... Happy Birthday Baba, may you live to see many more."
