Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has said he will arrest Mombasa governor Hassan Joho over an alleged demolition of a wall fencing land belonging to national broadcaster KBC.
Marwa accused Joho of leading youths on Friday to bring down the said wall in VOK area, Mombasa.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Marwa said that it was illegal for the governor to act with ‘impunity’ and demolish the wall, adding that Joho will be arrested and charged over destruction of property.
"We have not seen any of 47 governors chest thumping and breaking the law ... [so] we cannot allow the Governor to go free after destroying property that has cost taxpayers money to put up," Marwa said as quoted by the Star.
Marwa clarified that the said parcel was legitimate property of KBC and nobody else.
"This parcel of land belongs to Kenya Broadcasting Cooperation and not the Municipal Council as alleged," Marwa further said.
Joho has however maintained that the piece of land was property to the now defunct Mombasa Municipal Council whose operations were inherited by the Mombasa county government.
Until the wall was constructed around it, the piece of land under dispute acted as a dumpsite for the municipal government.
