Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is expected to face off with the man who accused him of forging his academic papers to vie for governor in the 2013 elections.
Vying on a Maendeleo Chap Chap ticket, Silas Otuke will renew his rivalry with Joho when the two battle it out in the race for the county’s top seat during the August 8 elections.Otuke gave Joho a false start during his first term in office when he engaged him in court contests amid claims that the Governor used dubious means to be awarded a degree by a Ugandan university.According to Otuke who asked the court to nullify the Governor’s 2013 election, Joho was unqualified to run for governor as he had not met the education threshold.Further, Otuke asked the court to declare null and void all the appointments that Joho had made since taking over as Governor. But to counter the complainant’s claims, Kampala International University Vice Chancellor defended Joho’s degree saying it was awarded based on meritHowever, the court in 2015 dismissed the appeal by Otuke who is an activist, bringing to an end the fears among Joho supporters that his 2013 victory would be nullified.
