Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has told President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to forget Coast votes as they seek re-election in August.
Speaking at Voi Stadium in Taita Taveta, Joho affirmed that the region is still an opposition stronghold, adding that residents are not ready to change their minds. "President Kenyatta will not get any votes at the coast," said Joho, as quoted by Nation.Joho, who was accompanied Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and Taita Taveta's John Mruttu, said Coast residents will vote the same way they did during the last general elections when they rallied behind Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leader Raila Odinga. The trio also said that Raila should be named National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer since ODM has the highest number of supporters in the region. The outspoken governor added that he will continue fighting for his people as long as he remains in office despite President Uhuru promising to teach him a lesson. "I will always keep the government on its toes," Mr Joho said. Joho and Kingi have assured Raila that they will mobilize residents in different parts to back him as he goes for the nation’s top seat.
