Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is in a pole position to defend his seat if elections were held today according to the latest poll.
According to the survey conducted by TIFA research Limited and released on Monday July 31, Joho would garner 74% of the votes with his nearest challenger being Jubilee candidate Suleiman Shahbal who would poll just 12% of the total votes. On the other hand, Hassan Omar of Wiper Party comes a distant third with just 6% of the votes with 4% of the voters remaining undecided on their preferred candidate.Nyali MP Hezron Awiti who is vying on a Vibrant Democratic Party has seen his popularity drop to 2% from the 3% he was enjoying in March.Shahbal and Omar have in the past dismissed the opinion polls saying that they are skewed to portray the incumbent as very popular, and exuded confidence that they will win the August 8 elections. All the four leading contenders have been traversing the county in the last couple of weeks in their bid to make last-minute attempts to woo voters to support their candidature.
