Cord leaders in Mombasa have vowed to ensure the Jubilee coalition does not penetrate the Coast region ahead of the 2017 elections.
In a political meeting held at a Mombasa hotel on Tuesday, the leaders, led by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi, accused the ruling regime of not caring about its citizens.
“Uhuru Kenyatta will go down in history as a one-term president, for we as Cord will do everything legal within our powers to make sure we oust him from office,” said Joho.
On his part, Kingi faulted the Jubilee government for failing to address historical land injustices within the Coastal region, claiming all the title deeds that President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto had given out were not legit.
“The title deeds are given to foreigners who are not even known to the residents at the Coast, a clear indication that a lot of corrupt dealings go on in the Lands ministry," said Kingi.
The meeting was attended by several MPs including Abduswamad Sharrif (Mvita) Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), Hezron Awiti (Nyali), Suleiman Dori (Msambweni), Badi Twalib (Jomvu) and Mombasa Women Rep Mishi Mboko who all agreed to work together to ensure Coast remains a Cord stronghold.
