Kenya has lagged behind in terms of development because of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s pride, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has claimed.

Joho said that the head of state has become too proud to listen to Kenyans.

He was responding to Uhuru’s decision to snub the Presidential debate held at Catholic University on Monday.

The Coastal political kingpin made the remarks after Uhuru said that he had ‘nothing’ to debate with NASA Presidential candidate Raila Odinga, who is taking a fourth stab at the Presidency.

"The President's character of pride and a prince's sense of entitlement has made him push Kenya towards ruin," Joho said, as quoted by Tuko.co.ke.

Joho, a close ally of Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, also said that the Jubilee government has failed to address issues affecting Kenyans despite having promised to improve the economy before the last general election.

The lawmaker cited the high cost of living and insecurity among other problems that the nation has been experiencing in the recent past.

"This is the attitude that has seen the President to remain silent while Kenyans run out of basics like unga, milk, sugar and while they struggle to cope with run-away insecurity and unprecedented corruption. In the middle of all these, President Kenyatta nurtures the belief that Kenyans owe him and he owes them nothing as a Prince," Joho added.
