The county government of Mombasa has partnered with a cement company to fund the construction of a cancer treatment centre at the Coast General Hospital.
Governor Hassan Joho on Tuesday said the facility will help fight the rising cancer cases in the region.
He spoke as he visited the facility to seek for treatment.
"I visited the Coast General Hospital for treatment and a few tests and I am delighted at the improvement in service delivery at the facility," he said on his official Facebook page.
"We have signed an agreement with Bamburi Cement for construction of a cancer centre to add to the various services already available here."
Construction of the facility according to the county chief will start in November.
"Part of our agreement includes procurement of cancer screening equipment," he added.
"We will continue to ensure that we provide quality health services for all citizens of Mombasa County and beyond."
Cancer of late is becoming a health threat to many not only in Mombasa but throughout the country.
There are, however, few health facilities that offer treatment for the disease.
Even those that provide such services are too expensive for the common Kenyan.
Majority of the people with the ailment seek for treatment in foreign hosiptals especially in India.
