The facility built by the county government in partnership with Lafarge-Bamburi Cement will help attend to the increasing cancer cases in Coast region.

“We have transformed the Oncology Department at the Coast General Hospital to an ultra-modern Day Care Chemotherapy Centre,” Joho said after visiting the facility on Tuesday.

“This is a tremendous shift from the current two-bed clinic. It currently operates seven treatment bays with the capacity to 21 patients daily.”

According to the county chief, the new center will have three consultation rooms, a drugs preparation room, and a pharmacy which will stock the latest chemotherapy drugs at highly competitive prices.

It will also house outdoor sea view gardens and gazebos which will be available for group therapy sessions.

“The facility will be manned by highly qualified personnel including surgical oncologists, gynecologists, nutritionists, counselors and pharmacists who will provide a holistic approach to cancer management,” Joho added.

“We will continue to work closely and forge more strategic and mutually beneficial partnerships with key stakeholders to constantly provide dignified healthcare for all in Mombasa.”
