Addressing journalists at Aga Khan Hospital Mombasa during the signing of a financing agreement between Agence Francaise De Development (Afd) and Aga Khan Health Services, the outspoken governor said he has been going through one of the most difficult moments in his life, and called upon the nation to keep praying.

"I have been going through a lot of things in my life and we should pray as we head to the elections this year," he said as quoted by the Standard.

This comes after Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi’s security teams were withdrawn.

The move was seen by many as political, after the duo engaged in a war of words with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The governors accused the President of taking credit for projects he did not fund.

Joho, however, rejected the security personnel after they were reinstated, saying he is happy without them.

"I am not going to contest the deployment of security guards to protect me. I am happy without them and I am not going to disclose my current residence," said Joho, after moving out of his Nyali home.

"We should do this country a favour by discussing issues of national importance. I am a Muslim and I know God will protect me," he added.
