Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has vowed to ensure rigging does not occur during the August 8 elections.
Speaking when he held a meeting with Bunge la Wananchi in Mombasa on Tuesday, the outspoken Governor stated that he will take a personal initiative to guard NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s votes."I want to tell you here today, I will take personal responsibility to guard Raila's votes on August 8. I will sit in one of the stations and each one of us has to take the responsibility to guard Raila's votes in all the polling stations. We will not compromise,” said the ODM deputy party leader. When asked if Raila stands a chance to win the race, Joho said there is no doubt that the former Prime Minister is the man to beat in the presidential contest.Joho's announcement may once again put the NASA coalition on a collision path with acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i who has banned NASA's 'adopt-a-polling station' plan.Matiang’i argues that overcrowding in polling stations may cause violence.
