In his Madaraka Day address at Tononoka grounds on Wednesday, the governor ordered the release of patients who had been detained for failing to clear their medical bills.

“I have declared a waiver on all pending bills for patients who have been discharged but are held due to non-payment of bills,” said the governor.

A total of 38 patients were released from the Coast General Hospital after the celebrations.

“In line with the declaration I gave during the commemoration of Madaraka day, a number of patients have already been discharged this afternoon from Coast General Hospital to celebrate this special day with their families at home,” said the governor on a Facebook post.

The governor was represented by County Secretary Francis Thoya who oversaw the process.
