Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho passed a major hurdle in his quest to defend his seat when he was cleared by IEBC on Thursday, bringing to an end the uncertainty that has clouded his re-election bid amid KCSE certificate forgery claims.
Addressing supporters on Thursday after getting his nomination certificate, the firebrand ODM deputy party leader warned his opponents to brace for a major battle in the gubernatorial race.Joho, who has dominated Mombasa politics for the past five years, exuded confidence that he will easily retain his seat.According to Joho, his victory is guaranteed but what will matter is the margin of the win during the August 8 polls. In what will be a repeat of the 2013 elections, Joho will face a familiar foe in Suleiman Shahbal of Jubilee. However, the entry of Senator Hassan Omar and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti will further spice up the race that is heating up.
