Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has warned members of the Somali community against voting for President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto in the August polls.
Speaking on Thursday after being endorsed by members of the community living in Mombasa, Joho argued that the Somalis have suffered a lot during the Jubilee regime, adding that the current leadership does not mean well for the community. He cited the extra judicial killings that have been witnessed in different parts of the country as one of the injustices meted against the community. The outspoken Governor further argued that the community has not benefited in any way from the Jubilee government arguing that the hospitals that have constructed in the North Eastern counties including Wajir, Mandera and Garissa are all county government projects."If you cannot trace where you came from, there is a likelihood that you will get lost on the way. Let's not forget the suffering that Somalis went through at the hands of Jubilee at Kasarani in 2013," he said. While promising to take care of the welfare of the community if re-elected, Joho noted that Mombasa is a cosmopolitan county and that his administration will endeavor to cater for the needs of all the communities living there. The endorsement came just hours after the Muslim community in the county vowed to support his candidature for a second term.
