Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has declared that he will lead Raila Odinga’s 2017 presidential campaigns.
Joho said opposition leaders will traverse the whole country in a bid to popularise Raila’s presidential bid.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party announced Raila as its presidential candidate a week ago in Mombasa during its 10th anniversary celebrations.
Speaking on Sunday during an interview with Citizen Tv, Joho said Raila won the 2007 general election by a huge margin but was denied power.
The governor said Raila has a big chance of beating President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017 polls.
“Raila actually won 2007 election by a huge margin. He sacrificed his position because he wanted to see a country with tranquillity. He has a big chance in 2017. He stands for something,” he said
“Raila understands the issues affecting Kenyans and is the only person who can provide solutions to them,” added the ODM deputy party leader.
On claims of him funding ODM’s 10th anniversary celebrations held in Mombasa a week ago, the governor said the Orange outfit receives contributions from its members and he did not single-handedly finance the jamboree.
“ODM has a lot of supporters, who are committed to see the party succeed, a lot or rebranding was done by the people, and of course contributions from well-wishers and party members like me. The celebrations was as a result of our contributions and efforts,” said Joho.
He reiterated his earlier remarks that he cannot be bought by the Jubilee Party, saying he was comfortable with what God has provided him with.
The ODM governor has gained massive popularity among opposition supporters as he has been very vocal in supporting Raila.
Joho has also made public his 2022 presidential ambitions, and has exuded confidence in clinching the seat.
