Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's ally, Aharubi Khatri, has threatened to sue Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa for defamation of character.

This comes after Marwa linked Khatri to drug trafficking and illegal possession of weapons.

Through lawyer Mohamed Balala, Khatri asked Marwa to apologize in the media and desist from making defamatory remarks as well as interfering with the operations of National Police Service in relation to the matter.

“Note that this demand is personal to you and not in your capacity as a regional commissioner as such acts of defamation are clearly not within your legal mandate,” reads part of the letter from Khatri.

Earlier, Marwa had questioned why Joho had stormed the Urban Police Station to demand the release of Khatri who is still under investigation.

“Why must he (Joho) mobilise everybody to come rescue a potential drug baron who is wanted by everyone with several armouries in his house? Why was the governor so determined to rescue a drug baron who was in possession of more than three guns? What was the big agenda?” asked Marwa.

Marwa has however said he is not aware of the suit.
