Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho left the county to Spain on Wednesday.
The county's Director of Communication Richard Chacha issued a communication on Tuesday saying Governor Joho would leave for Spain on Wednesday, April 11th 2018 to advance plans and funding to build two desalination plants to bridge the gap between water demand and supply that currently stands at 70 percent.
One plant will be built in Likoni projected to produce 30,000 cubic metres a day and another in Shimo La Tewa to produce 100,000 cubic metres per day, effectively ending the perennial water problem in the county.
The plants are expected to be up and running within this year.
Mombasa currently depends on water supply from Taita Taveta and Kwale counties.
During his visit in Spain the Governor would meet government officials and experts in water solutions and desalination.
