Just days after being given the nod by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission [IEBC) to vie for Mombasa senator on a Jubilee Party ticket during the August 8 polls, Hazel Katana has hit the campaign trail.
Speaking during a Jubilee campaign rally in Shanzu on Monday, Katana who is the only female candidate in the race expressed optimism that she will trounce her opponents and clinch the seat. While urging the residents to support her bid, the Mombasa Deputy Governor said that she represents the face of change that the county needs to realize its development agenda.Though she admitted that time constraint may affect her campaigns, Katana said she will recover the time she has 'wasted' fighting for her nomination certificate. The Mombasa senator race is considered an open contest with no favourite to clinch the seat and Katana's entry is set to complicate the battle even further.Others in the race include ODM's Mohamed Faki, Hamisi Mwaguya and Jabess Oduor who are both vying as independent candidates.
