Officials from the Ministry of Education on Monday morning toured Mama Ngina Girls High School in Mombasa, where they had a constructive session with the students and the administration of the school.
The team was led by Cabinet Secretary for Education Amb. Amina Mohammed and Principal Secretary Prof. Hamadi Boga, alongside Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi.
Kingi said Mama Ngina Girls is a towering figure among her peers and remains a great centre of excellence in the county yet it has not received the necessary support from the national government.
The Ministry intends to relocate the school to a larger land in Shimo Land Tewa, according to former Education CS Dr Fred Matiang'i.
"And now as plans are underway to relocate the school to a bigger land (20qcres) we urge the ministry to avail the necessary support in the form of improved infrastructure and staff that would help in creating an enabling and conducive learning environment for the students," urged the DG.
In order for the devolved education systems to work effectively, Kingi said there was need for great partnership with the national government even in supporting the non-devolved systems such as upper primary and secondary education.
"Our desire is to promote education as a basic right to every child in the Coast region. Through the department of Research headed by Prof. Boga we hope that the ministry shall also tap into the talents of our students to promote and nurture innovation and inventions among our children," he added.
"It is important to enhance the thinking capacity of our students at this early stages and to implant a culture of research and innovation in them."
Kingi further indicated that the county government of Mombasa remains committed to the education agenda as elaborated in the manifesto.
"We shall dedicate the necessary resources to ensure that the future of our children are secured through education," concluded Kingi.
