The county government of Mombasa has set aside Sh2.9 billion in the 2017/2018 budget for the improvement of health services. The Governor Hassan Joho-led government unveiled a budget that includes all the projects in the county, in which the gross recurrent and gross development estimates stand at Sh7 billion and Sh3 billion respectively. The Transport and Infrastructure sector will receive Sh1.4 billion while the Tourism and Education sectors will get Sh180 million and Sh1.3 billion respectively. The government has allocated Sh235 million for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries as it seeks to achieve its goals within this financial year.The Youth, Gender and Sports sector will receive Sh551 million while the Water and Natural resources sector has been allocated Sh123 million, Baraka FM reports.Addressing journalists at Tononoka Hall on Thursday, Finance and Budget Committee chairperson Mohammed Hatmi confirmed that the budget was scrutinized and taken through the recommended procedures before its publication.“The budget included the required process as all the controllers of budget were involved in its implementation,” he said, as quoted by the daily.
