Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Thursday left the country to the Republic of Estonia, a country in Northern Europe which borders the Baltic Sea and Gulf of Finland.
Joho together with his team of County Executives had a productive meeting with the Director General of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mait Palts.
He left for a two-day official visit following an official invitation from the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"I am delighted and honored to begin a 2 day official visit which seeks to further strengthen the existing warm and cordial relations between the people of Estonia and the people of Mombasa," he said.
The visit seeks to fortify the relationship to tangible cooperation through technology and technical skills exchange to further improve the County's business processes, improve revenue collection systems and mainstream efficiency and accountability through advanced automation.
The hallmark of his visit, Joho said was to expand Mombasa County's Smart City initiatives. The team discussed various areas of partnerships especially in manufacturing and fisheries value addition.
They also discussed cooperation in developing exchange and learning programmes to facilitate skill and knowledge transfer in the said sectors and possibilities of fruit export to Estonia and the European Union.
"My interest was captured by the open governance solutions that Estonia has been practicing and that have been promoted globally by e-Governance Academy."
While in Estonia, the governor indicated his intention was also to find sustainable solutions to pressing issues in Mombasa, that it has successfully handled.
