Re-elected outspoken Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has invited his opponents to work with his government towards uniting Mombasa residents as well as develop the county.
Joho, the ODM deputy party leader managed to whip support for opposition presidential candidate Raila Odinga despite inroads made by Jubilee in the county that boasts of a flourishing tourism industry.The former Kisauni MP says his administration will treat Mombasa residents equally irrespective of individual political affiliations.Hassan Omar (Wiper), Suleiman Shahbal (Jubilee Party) and Hezron Awiti (Vibrant Democratic Party) who challenged him for the county top seat during the August 8 election, he said, should feel free to join him in developing Mombasa.Unity, Joho added, is the surest way of realising development.“I promise to keep up with the robust development agenda and urge all my competitors to join hands in developing our beloved county,” he said Saturday after being handed his certificate by county IEBC Returning Officer Wanjiku Kariuki.“As your governor, I will serve all regardless of your voting preference. I will continue to stand firm in defending your rights.”Joho humbled his opponents with a wide margin after garnering 221,177 votes. His closest challenger, Shahbal got 69,151.Senator Omar scooped 43,878 votes while Awiti managed 4,709. Kadu Asili’s Daniel Kitsao received a paltry 1,670.
