A section of Kamba residents in Mombasa have endorsed Jubilee gubernatorial hopeful Suleiman Shabhal for the position, accusing the incumbent governor Ali Hassan Joho of neglecting them through his four and half years term.
Led by the Kamba Community Advisory Council leader and spokesperson Philip Ndolo on Sunday, the group affirmed its support for Shabhal's candidature, vowing to vote him to the last man.
“Kambas want assurance that they will be included in the next Mombasa government. That is why we are behind Shahbal’s candidature,” he noted.
On his part, Shabhal accepted the endorsement, pledging to prioritise the group's interests should he get elected.
He further called on the community to support the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is seeking a second term on a Jubilee Party ticket.
The Kamba Community make up the second largest voter block, but has no single executive in Joho's administration.
