The Luo Union Mombasa Chapter has resolved to back Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar's gubernatorial candidature during the forthcoming general elections.

The group has since withdrawn its support for the incumbent governor Ali Hassan Joho, who is seeking reelection on an ODM Party ticket.

Announcing the decision on Wednesday, Mikindani MCA Duncan Onyango accused Joho of sidelining the community in his leadership, asserting that they will not be backing the outspoken county chief's reelection bid.

“Our stand is very simple. We do not support Joho, we cannot support Joho, we will never support Joho and nobody can persuade us to support Joho,” he declared.

But in a quick rejoinder, governor Joho through his personal aide Richard Chacha dismissed the impact of the group's declaration, observing that it was their democratic right to back whoever they want.

“It’s their democratic right to support whoever they want. But they should not drag the entire community because of their perceived personal differences," he said.
