Gatundu South lawmaker Moses Kuria has indicated that the person Mombasa governor Hassan Joho went to rescue from Urban police station in Mombasa, Friday, is wanted by Interpol.
In a statement, the Jubilee MP noted Arub Ibrahim Khatri is wanted for drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
"Following the events of the arrest and release of Governor Joho together with other Members of Parliament on 13th January 2017, allegations have since emerged that the man he went to demand for his release, Mr. Arub Ibrahim Khatri is wanted by the International Police (INTERPOL),'' said Kuria.
He noted Khatri is wanted for running a UK stolen vehicle syndicate mobster and drug trafficking.
"It is alleged that Arub has been leading car thieves and robbery ring in Britain then importing the cars to sell to unsuspecting customers. In many instances, the stolen vehicles have been used to ship drugs into East African region. The mobster deals in stolen vehicles, cocaine, and heroin,'' he added.
Kuria continued: "Intelligence shows Arub Ibrahim Khatri is a relative of Mombasa governor Ali-Hassan Joho. He is a close associate of the Akasha family. The Akasha’s have been charged with drug trafficking.''
''Arub Ibrahim has been mentioned in extortion cases where unsuspecting car buyers were swindled millions of shillings (tens of thousands of dollars) after their vehicles were repossessed by INTERPOL,'' read Kuria's statement in part, Saturday.
