The man who contested for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat during the August 8 general election on a Jubilee ticket has landed a new job in President Uhuru Kenyatta's new appointments.
Suleiman Shahbal who lost to Governor Hassan Joho who was re-elected to serve a second and final term has been appointed the chairperson of the board in the Kenya Trade Network.
Kenya Trade Network is a State Agency under Treasury whose role is to facilitate cross border trade, establish as well as manage the implementation of the Kenya National Electronic Single Window System.
Kenya National Electronic Single Window System's primary objective is to facilitate international trade by reducing delays and lowering costs associated with clearance of goods at the Kenyan borders.
The body also helps maintain the requisite controls and collection of levies, fees duties and taxes, where applicable on imports or exports.
Shahbal is a prominent businessman in Mombasa and Nairobi and has vast interests in the real estate, banking and education sectors.
He played an instrumental role in mounting water-tight Jubilee party campaigns in Mombasa and across the Coast a region that almost wholly voted for opposition chief Raila Odinga during the polls.
Shahbal is among leaders from Coast region close to Uhuru. He was poised to get an appointment following his relatively successful Jubilee campaigns in Mombasa.
