The government has instituted audit process to investigate Mombasa governor Hassan Joho’s financial integrity.
Taxman, Kenya Revenue Authority mailed Diamond Trust Bank few days ago requesting to be served with critical bank details of the vocal ODM leader.
In a letter dated March 14, KRA wants DTB to avail bank statements, account opening documents, mandate forms and any other records for Joho’s account, identified with the number 0038342991.
The authority demands that the said certified details covering the period January 2011 till now be provided either in electronic form or hard copies to its Time Tower based offices.
This move comes in less than a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s outbursts against the Mombasa governor during his last week’s tour of the Coast.
The head of state was visibly irritated by the governor’s incessant attacks on Jubilee government. He said that Joho should stop engaging in supremacy battles with him failure to which he (Uhuru) would deal with him.
Joho however has claimed that Jubilee government is behind the KRA demands. He questioned the motive behind KRA’s request.
"I have been filing returns and I wonder why the investigations have been ordered at this particular time,” he said.
The governor has been severally labelled a drug dealer by top Jubilee leadership an allegation he dismisses as a tactic to taint his name.
