In a bid to commemorate the National Tree Planting Day, the Governor of Mombasa led the exercise at Shanzu where he was joined by visiting senators, local leaders and Mombasa residents.
Hassan Joho said his administration's objective is to plant over 1.5 million trees spread across the County.
During the exercise on May 12, the governor directed the county departments of Education and Environment to come up with a weekly tree planting programme that will focus on indigenous trees.
He also expressed his pleasure after government departments, schools, civil society, corporates and the general public joined hand in the tree planting drive to make the county's contribution in increasing the country’s forest cover.
Joho later received seven anaesthesia machines among other medical equipment donated by Global Medica Aid sourced by Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki.
The equipment will be distributed in hospitals across the county and will go along way in improving the quality of healthcare being offered in Mombasa medical facilities.
"I thank Hon. Faki for the effort and the donors for their kind gesture," he said.
