Women in Mombasa County have been urged to join women groups in a bid to access support from both the county and national governments.
Chairman for Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Mombasa County, Afiya Rama said more women should be in groups to benefit from various government projects meant for women.
Ms Rama said the government has already initiated projects that will empower women and girls in the country.
“We urge more women in the county to join women groups where they will go through training to acquire skills that will empower them.”
Ms Rama who was speaking to women groups on Tuesday in Mombasa added that they plan to speak to women from the grassroots to enable them take part in economically viable activities.
“No woman should be left behind as we embark on a mission to empower women economically. We urge the women to sensitise their members on the available opportunities and encourage them to engage in development activities.”
Ms Rama urged the area women to form or join groups to access funds such as Women Enterprise fund in a bid to reduce high level of dependency.
She lauded the government for initiatives which enable women to easily get into business saying the government has made a lot of strides in encouraging women to get into business.
