Waikenda said that NYS is recruiting youths, and they should get involved with the community development to eradicate idleness, which later results to crime and drug abuse.

The CeC also urged the youth to join Red Cross, which he believes will have an impact in their lives in future, and also help in achieving vision 2030.

“Try and join community services like red cross that will help keep your mind busy or just get involved in social and volunteer work in the organizations,” said Waikenda.

Waikenda, who was speaking in Mwiki Ward, Ruiru on Wednesday when he attended the Youth Empowerment capacity building training, said that Kiambu County has got plenty of talents, which go to waste and that the youth should identify their talents and use them to their advantage.

He expressed his happiness with the well attended youth seminar in the ward, terming it as thirst for development and empowerment, and urged them to apply for different tenders at the county government.

The sports minister revealed that in partnership with the county government, they will establish local programmes, which will be like a youth club to empower women and the children who are vulnerable in the society.

He has however extended his gratitude to the Kiambu Governor William Kabogo for the constant support he has committed to the youth empowerment programme in the county.

Waikenda has lauded the Githurai Youth Bunge (GYB) for their creative thinking of coming up with parliamentary group to criticize the leaders of Kiambu, saying that it will help keep the leaders on toes within the county.
