The Parliamentary Joint Select Committee tasked with seeing the much needed electoral reforms is expected to table its report to parliament on Tuesday with a number of draft bills and recommendations.

According to a source in the team, the committee is not yet ready to table the report in parliament on Tuesday and it is not yet clear whether the process will be done jointly.

A number of issues remain unresolved days after the committee's deadline has surpassed prompting them to continue working overnight to iron out the issues.

Initially, Cord was rooting for a 7 member committee but Jubilee insisted on a 9 member committee which the Cord team later relented to the demand of nine members.

IEBC commissioners have already agreed to vacate office, on condition of a negotiated agreement, paving the way for a new commission that will oversee the 2017 General Election.

The electoral body commissioners are also eager to know if their terms of their exit package have been met which also include not being investigated any further for alleged offences and that secretariat staff is retained to continue organising for the poll.

In addition, the team agreed on working with the current register which will be inspected by a forensic audit including 1 forensic audit firm of international repute and 1 other body with international experience and expertise on electoral matters.

The committee was in the process of finalising a draft elections offences bill and a draft bill to amend several electoral laws ahead of the elections.

A debate is re-emerging of a scenario incase the team led by senators Kiraitu Murungi and James Orengo fails to deliver on its mandate.
