Kisii based journalists were yesterday stranded after irate students barred them from accessing the institution’s premise.
The students who had gone on rampage were opposed to the coverage of the protest by the media and pelted with stones the journalists who had arrived moments before the protest.
The journalists were forced to flee for safety before the police came to their aid and helped them gain access to the institution.
The students were demonstrating against the automatic deferment and the fee payment deadline that was introduced in the university this semester.
The management had introduced the fee payment deadline owing to the financial crisis it is currently facing.
During the rampage, over 60 students were arrested and will be arraigned in court on Tuesday while scores were left injured.
The injured students were rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital where some were treated and discharged while others are still recuperating at the facility.
The institution’s management has, however, not released any statement on the Monday riot while attempts to reach them also proved futile.
