Journalists have condemned the Tuesday assault on journalists Citizen TV reporter Francis Gachuri and NTV's Jane Gatwiri by hooligans at the Wiper Headquarters in Nairobi.
Speaking after the incidence, Kenya Editors Guild chair Linus Kaikai said NASA must be put to task of identifying and handing over to police those who attacked the journalists.
"It is deeply troubling that such an attack could take place within a supposed secured compound of a party headquarters and in the presence of some party officials," Kaikai said in a statement.
"This was a criminal act and NASA must demonstrate its commitment to the rule of law by producing to the police the perpetrators of this incident," Kaikai added.
He insisted that the attack was part of a growing culture of "intolerance, political and ethnic profiling of journalists" and said it must be brought to an end.
"This culture must be brought to an end and journalists be allowed to perform their rightful duties wherever they must, including political events," he said.
