Journalists in the country have been urged to exercise professionalism as the country readies for a repeat of the presidential polls on October 17.
Media Council of Kenya (MCK) Programs Manager Victor Bwire said on Monday that as informers of the public, journalists must work tirelessly to ensure that the news they give out is not only balanced but also very objective to ensure that the public gets the right information during this electioneeting period.
"As the public watchdog, journalists must ensure they are professional, impartial and objective even as they go about their issues. With so much stakes during this electioneering period professionalism is key," he said.
Bwire noted that it was imperative for the press to learn from its mistakes especially before, during and after August 8 polls when some members of the public raised issues over their allegiance.
"We must strive to prove to the public of our non partisanship in reporting. There were some issues regarding the August 8 polls especially in regards to our neutrality which we must clarify, " he added.
He spoke during a familiarization exercise with pressmen in Turkana.
