Garissa Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) Secretary General Abdullahi Salat has pleaded with the local and international media to report objectively on tomorrow’s general election.

The official has warned media against sensationalizing of issues, saying it will only create anxiety and tension.

Speaking to journalists in Garissa on on Sunday, Salat asked the media to play its role well and help preach peace and unity during and after the Tuesday polls.

Salat said that has a key role in election, adding that the fourth estate has to stand to its watchdog role and help the country realize unity.

He appealed to media houses to adhere to the code of conduct when reporting and covering the Tuesday polls.

“Our appeal is to the media both local and international to exercise the ethical conduct and report professionally,” he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.

Salat also cautioned media especially the FM stations against giving air play to politicians or political analysts who fane inflammatory remarks.

He said that tomorrow’s polls will be peaceful if politicians, the media and Kenyans exercise calmness and tolerance.

Over 19 Million eligible Kenyans are expected to vote in tomorrow’s general election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) says that it’s ready to deliver credible general election.

Security has also been heightened in all corners of the country with Kenyans being urged to come out in numbers and exercise their democratic right.
