Over 2,100 needy university students in Mombasa were all smiles after the County government through the Department of Education, ICT and Mombasa Vision 2035 issued them with school fees bursary for their education.

Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr. William Kingi together with education officers, led in the disbursement of the school fees cheques amounting to Sh20 million to the students and parents during the event held at Tononoka Social Hall on Monday.

The students who are admitted in at least 73 different universities within and outside Kenya, were part of the total 23,150 beneficiaries comprising of also secondary school students, special needs students and tertiary college students who were awarded the bursaries last year but were yet to receive their cheques.

Upon arrival at the venue, beneficiaries are required to submit a photocopy of their Identification Cards and bursary form tear slip.

The education officer then verifies their details with the register before they are issued with their cheques. 

Elimu Fund Chief Executive Officer John Musuva said they anticipate that 90 to 95 per cent of the beneficiaries will receive their cheques between by Friday, April 20.
