Teachers and parents at Mwingo Academy in Changamwe could not hide their joy when one of their students emerged the best in the constituency and fourth in Mombasa, after receiving his missing KCPE marks.
Joseph Karau garnered a total of 412 marks after the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) finally released his missing English marks, in which he scored 90.
Karau, who wants to become a neurosurgeon, said he would like to join Alliance Boys High School.
"It feels great to be a top student. Hard work pays. It is another opportunity for me to confirm my dominance. Big thanks to those who walked me through," he said, as quoted by The Star.
The school, which had registered 20 candidates this year, had a mean grade of 375.6.
The school's director Joseph Mose said the candidates performed well with the lowest scoring 343 marks.
This comes a few days after Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i surprised Kenyans by releasing the results earlier than expected.
