A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has stepped in to support needy students' education across the country.

Global Hope Foundation, which operates in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Rwanda on Thursday rolled out an ambitious program to support needy students through bursaries.

The organization’s programmes director, Edwin Kagiri said the initiative targets to raise Sh100 million.

“Our aim is to ensure needy students do not drop out of school for lack of fees. We are urging well-wishers from across the globe to support us in this initiative,” Kagiri said.

Kagiri accompanied by officials from the organization visited Kavingo Secondary School in Yatta, Machakos County where they issued a Sh50,000 cheque towards the program.

During the occasion which was attended by teachers and parents of the school, Kagiri said quality education and development of skilled manpower was critical to the realization of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s big four agenda as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The school’s principal, Paul Nzuki who thanked the organization’s administration said the donation will go a long way in supporting some 25 students who risked dropping out of school due to financial challenges.
