Ms Gwendo said she will vie for the Kisumu East MP seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.

The seat is currently held by Shakeel Shabbir (ODM), a second time MP.

She was speaking in Kisumu on Monday when she donated a 5,000-litre tank to Oasis of Hope Secondary School.

"Most people think that being Luo means I should join Cord or NASA but that is not the case,” Gwendo said.

"We the Luo community need to be in different parties. Let other Luos be in Cord, let me remain in Jubilee."

Gwendo has been under pressure to abandon President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party and join the opposition.

Politicians from Kisumu have been telling her that unless she quits Jubilee, her chances of getting elected for any political position in August will be hard.

ODM, a party that opposition chief Raila Odinga heads enjoys massive support in Kisumu and is expected to sweep all elective seats during the August general elections.

Gwendo spoke one day after former TNA Secretary General Onyango Oloo ditched Jubilee Party for ODM.
