The only male applicant for the position of Deputy Chief Justice has been disqualified from the race to replace Kalpana Rawal.
The Judicial Service Commission said Dr Isaac Rutenberg, who holds a PhD in Chemistry, lacked the required 15 years legal experience.
Dr Rutenberg has five years experience in law. He is a senior Lecturer and director of Strathmore University Law Centre, specialising in Science and Technology Law.
He also has a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Mathematics/Computer Science from the Colorado School of Mines, as well as a PhD in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology.
“The position of the DCJ is to provide intellectual leadership to the court and it can only be realised by a good command of the law which you lack,” Attorney General Githu Muigai who sits at the panel told Dr Rutenberg.
