Scores of Jua Kali artisans from Nakuru County have urged the county government to help them in provision of market.
Speaking on Tuesday at Nakuru Town, the youthful artisans singled out marketing as the most stubborn challenge facing them.
Stephen Kariuki, their spokesman said accessing market has been their greatest hurdle in generation of income.
“We make our items but the market is becoming difficult to access, we have the products but cannot get a market,” said Kariuki.
He further said that the sector has employed many youths, and it needs reforms to attract more even more.
“This informal sector is the only left venue where youths can earn a living and it is our desire for the county government to reform it,” added Kariuki.
He also called on the county government to assist the artisans by building them sheds to ensure they conduct their trade in good environment.
“We want the county government to look into our plights by constructing shed to our members,” said Kariuki.
He further urged the county government to increase its allocation of resources to the development of the informal sector.
Kinuthia's administration has been constructing sheds for informal traders and hawkers in a process seen a major step in addressing the challenges affecting the youth.
MP David Gikaria has been involved immensely in constructing sheds at Nakuru Town with CDF Funds, aimed at addressing the issues of the informal sector.
