Residents of Juakali, Njoro have decried the lack of toilets in the area saying that the situation is getting from bad to worse as time moves.
They say that the available public toilets in the area are dilapidated, dirty and have no doors leaving them exposed to diseases that come as a result of poor hygiene.
The most affected areas are the markets where residents say that people have now resorted to relieving themselves in the bushes.
“We have a big problem especially us women. For instance if you are sick, you end up soiling yourself before getting to the nearby bush,’ says Ruth Wanjiku a cereals seller.
Sometimes they also rely on those with hotels where they say that the owners are now becoming fed up by their numerous requests to use their lavatories.
They operators are requesting the Nakuru county government to intervene and construct new toilets for them.
“The people we voted for here have refused completely to build toilets for us. We are tired of going to the bush and using paper bags. We also cannot continue stepping on human waste which is now spread all over,” said Paul Njuguna, a cart puller.
Andrew Mureithi, the chairman of Njoro businessmen association says that Njoro is their headquarters and it is very shameful for them when they have visitors around.
“We are told that there is six million shillings that has been set aside by the county government for toilets here. Let that money be used to build us these very necessary facilities as quickly as possible,” he said.
Just recently, Turi residents in Molo asked the Nakuru County government to construct lavatories for them or forget about collecting taxes in the area.
