Garissa Governor-elect Ali Korane is set to be inaugurated today, Monday, with several guests expected to attend the function including Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe.
Speaking at Garissa Primary School on Saturday, Siyat Osman, a member of the Assumption of Office and Swearing in Committee said that different personalities have been invited to attend the historic event.
Some of the high profile guests are from Somalia’s federal government, UN officials based in the Dadaab refugee camp and officials from Ethiopia among others.
“We have invited all regional authorities because this county government has to work with them in one way or another. We know they have their people here and we know our people go there,” said Siyat, a former Lamu county secretary.
The official also said that the county government of Garissa wants to create friendship with neighbors.
“We are trying to inculcate the culture of good neighbourliness.”
Speaking in response to the fire at Garissa Market, the county boss said that he hopes that was the last time the residents will witness such an incident.
“The campaigns are over and political temperatures have cooled down. We hope things will change for the better for the people of Garissa County. We lost our market, but we hope that will be the last ugly incident,” he said.
