The electoral agency, IEBC, has cleared former Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, to vie for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat.
Waiguru, a Jubilee Party candidate, was cleared, despite MPs recommending that she be barred from vying, or holding a public office.
She is accused of playing role in the loss of Sh1.8 billion, from the NYS kitty, when still a CS, leading to her resignation.
The National Assembly unanimously endorsed a report on the Special National Youth Service (NYS) scam audit, saying Waiguru oversaw the 2015 loot as the CS, and failed to take action
However, she filed a petition at the High Court, seeking orders to allow her vie, saying that the report was based on malice, and there was no evidence she played part in the scam.
Waiguru wanted the Court to quash the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report, whose chairman is Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo (who is vying to be the Siaya governor).
The former powerful government official could not hide her joy, even as her supporters expressed jubilation, immediately she received clearance certificate from the Kirinyaga IEBC Regional Returning Officer, Friday.
